Happy Cricket Ceramics is a small Hawaii based ceramic company founded and owned by the artist Brenda Meriwether. Origianlly a textile artist incorporating ceramics into her pieces, now works primarily in ceramics. She has over 30 years experience in shop ceramics, from lessons and classes to instructor and shop manager herself. Drawn to the Hawaiian Islands by the oceans, she shares this beauty with you though her work on ceramic tile. Both poured and slab built techniques are used to produce single, multi, and larger jigsaw mosaic ceramic tile murals. Her works have shown and sold as part of several Honolulu's First Friday Art Walks and part of Berkeley, CA's First Friday Art Walks with pieces in the MC Art Works Gallery. Februrary 2007 she had her own art show at the Ong King Art Center in Honolulu's Chinatown. May 2007's First Friday was another major opening of a month on display of several pieces in a window at Art At Mark's Garage in downtown Honolulu. Happy Cricket Ceramics also recently had a booth at the 2007 Haliewa Art Festival and will be returning for the July 2008 Art Festival. The June 14th and 15th 2008 Nanakuli Leeward Kai 40th Aniversary and Father's Day Regata will be the next event where Happy Cricket Ceramics will be represented. Her work can be viewed at the Berkeley,CA MC Art Works Gallery, the Polynesian Cultural Center, and Polynesian Treasures in the Haliewa North Shore Market Place where most of her designs are available for purchase. Recent custom work includes a dog portrait and an installation of a border of marine life tiles above a spa tub. Custom dog portrait tiles, murals and single tile designs can also be purchased framed or unframed and ready for installation directly through her.
